The Golden Gate in Jerusalem, known as “The Gate of Eternal Life” in Arabic, as it stood in 1900
Scripture: And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life. (Matthew 19:29)
Observation: I picked this verse because it seems to me that this Gospel reading has normally been associated with a hard pill to swallow. We spend our lives trying to make ourselves comfortable with the wealth that we are trying to gain from our blood, sweat and tears in the working world of society, and then we hear Jesus say that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. This verse puts this whole Gospel reading into perspective. If we are taught by our family to amass wealth, then it is only necessary to deny what we were taught by our family in order to recieve true riches for eternity.
Peace (Latin: pax) : I will focus my energy on displaying the fruit of peace to everyone I come in contact with today and for the rest of my life. It is not my intention to make others feel bad for amassing wealth, but rather to show others that real peace can come from storing up your treasure in heaven.
Prayer: Lord, help me to show others that I am truly at peace with how I am being asked to live out this life here on earth, please give me all of the grace necessary to not show envy for the things that others have. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
