After he was anointed, the Spirit was upon him…

Standard

Gift:  Piety (Reverence)

Reading:  Then Samuel, with the horn of oil in hand, anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and from that day on, the spirit of the LORD rushed upon David. When Samuel took his leave, he went to Ramah.  (1 Samuel 16:13)

Observation:  I am hearing that it was a physical sign of anointing with oil that caused the spirit of the Lord to rush upon David.  The reason this sign is significant to me is because we are preparing about 40 young people to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this April and as frustrating as the journey can be sometimes, I am hopeful that the spirit of the Lord will rush upon these young people as they too are anointed with oil by the Bishop.

Application:  Long-suffering (Positive Attitude)  If you read the definition of long-suffering on the format for journaling page, you may get an idea why I chose this fruit to display in relation to this reading that reminded me of the Sacrament of Confirmation.  I realize that it will take a continued presence of the Holy Spirit in my heart and the grace that comes from the continual receipt of the Sacraments, in order to be able to keep a positive attitude during this process of faith formation in these young people.

Prayer:  Lord, send down your Holy Spirit to stay with these young people as they continue on their journey toward confirmation.  Please supply me with the grace necessary to help them along their journey, as well as the journey of my own children to where God is calling them.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
