Scripture: As he looked on, he was surprised to see that bush, though on fire, was not consumed. (Exodus 3:2b)
He said to him in reply, ‘Sir leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not, you can cut it down. (Luke 13:8-9)
Observation: The first reading has left me with the question of, “What is my burning bush?” (Answer) The word of God, with all of its truth revealed in the scriptures is my burning bush.
After reading the Gospel reading again this morning, I was left with the question of, “Has the Lord been searching for fruit from me in my first three years of when I should be bearing fruit or am I in the last chance year???
Application: The second reading from today’s Mass readings actually has the admonition that I think I should remember, I should act in a way that shows the faith the gardener has that I would bear fruit. (From the reading) Whoever thinks he is standing secure, should take care not to fall.
Prayer: Lord, help me to stand firm only in your truth revealed through your Word. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
