Reading: Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. (Luke 11:23)
Observation: It is apparent to me this morning that Jesus was trying to make a point that after performing the exorcism of the demon that was making the man mute, if the people did not believe that it was God that was doing it, they would naturally be against him.
Application: Love (Charity) This morning, for the first time, I think I am able to see what the fruit of love or charity really means. It doesn’t mean that I should accept the attitudes of our enemies as perfectly valid excuses for mean behavior. Rather, I should do what Jesus did here, and call them on it. It would do them no good to see me suffer in silence because of their behavior and it is only by calling them on this behavior of false wisdom, that I can truly show them that I love them.
Prayer: Lord, I know that I try to show love to everyone that I meet. Please keep your Word from the end of this Gospel reading today in my head today and for the rest of my life, so I can be sure and show everyone I meet the love and charity that comes from your Word. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
