It is not you, but the Spirit of the Father speaking through you…

Gift:  Knowledge With the gift of knowledge, we understand the meaning of God’s Revelation, especially as expressed in the life and words of Jesus Christ. A person with knowledge is always learning more about the scriptures and Tradition.

Googled, "Spirit of the Father"

Reading:  Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.  For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.  (Matthew 10:16,20)

Observation:  Today’s reading does not directly have Jesus speaking to us about our present circumstances, as much as He is speaking to the Apostles as they are being sent throughout Israel to share the message of the Good News with the Jewish people of their day.  However, I see that they were not unlike Catholics today who have the faith passed down to us through 2000 years of tradition in the church, that stems from the message of Jesus to Peter that he would build His church on him and we have the faith message to give to our Christian brothers and sisters.  It is our mission too, that I believe Jesus is speaking of here, that we must be as shrewd as serpents but simple as doves in order to bring all of our brothers and sisters into a real understanding of what it could mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.  The enjoyment that comes from the richness of the Sacramental life should not be hoarded but shared with everyone who would call themselves “Christian”…

Personification:  Faith/Fidelity – The ability to stick to our work and to stay firm in our commitment to God and to God’s people with whom we are connected.  It is only by staying faithful to our church and to the great commission given to us by the Son of God himself that I can be sure of displaying the fruit of faith and fidelity.  There are times when it is hard, but it is those times that make us who God created us to be.

Prayer:  Lord, please continue to create in me a new spirit of repentance for my past sins, so that I can be everything that you created me to be.  Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
