What some of us used to be…

Christogram with Jesus Prayer in Romanian: Lor...

Gift:  Counsel (Right Judgment) – With the gift of right judgment, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with right judgment avoids sin and lives out the values taught by Jesus.

Reading:  That is what some of you used to be; but now you have had yourselves washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.  (1 Corinthians 6:11)

Observation:  Last week, I quoted the verse that follows this one to go along with the thoughts that I had about how Jesus has made all things possible, but does not want us to be led to sin.  Today, the message I am getting from the first reading from today’s Mass readings is that the only way to keep ourselves from sin is to rely on the sanctifying grace that comes from the Lord Jesus Christ and the indwelling of the holy Spirit in our earthly bodies.

Personification:  Long-suffering (Positive Attitude) – Because we know we are loved by God, we are able to put up with the injuries, slights, and outrages of life.  For me, I hope to be able to display today and for the rest of my life, the ability to suffer whatever injustice that comes my way, because I know that God loves me.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to stay true to your Word today and for the rest of my life.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
