Gift: Understanding – With the gift of understanding, we comprehend how we need to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. A person with understanding is not confused by all the conflicting messages in our culture about the right way to live.
Reading: I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence. (Luke 11:8)
Observation: When I first read this verse from the Gospel, I thought Jesus was going to say something about if the neighbor does not get the bread for him then he will be judged. It might be because in the first reading, Paul is telling the Galatians to not be stupid and how they should follow their faith and not the law. However, Jesus says that the neighbor will eventually relent because of the persistence of his neighbor. The message to me on this Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is to keep praying.
Personification: Long-suffering (Positive Attitude) – Because we know we are loved by God, we are able to put up with the injuries, slights, and outrages of life. The message for me today should give me the ability to display the fruit of long-suffering by allowing me to stay positive as long as I keep praying.
Prayer: Lord, hear our prayer. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit. Amen.
