Gift: Wisdom– With the gift of wisdom, we see God at work in our lives and in the world. For the wise person, the wonders of nature, historical events, and the ups and downs of our lives take on deeper meaning. The matters of judgment about the truth, and being able to see the image of God.
Reading: In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the one who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will, (Ephesians 1:11)
Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? 4 Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)
Observation: Although my first impression of the readings this morning was personal, once I tried to pick out the verses that were speaking to me this morning I realized that there was more to the readings this morning than I had originally thought. The title to my post gives a glimpse of what I had originally thought about when I first read the readings, but the lasting impression was gleaned from the three verses above. I was struck by the fact that not only were we chosen, but Jesus tells us that God is particularly interested in how we respond to that call.
Personification: Joy I will act intentionally today to respond to the fact that God is watching everything by giving him something good to watch. Of course, I am going to need to rely on the grace of God to give me the strength to respond with the fruit of joy today, because it is not always easy to see the good he has in store for us in the midst of our suffering in this world.
Prayer: Lord, help me to see that you have the best intentions for my life and allow me to rely on your will to lead my life. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit. Amen.
