Gift:  Counsel (Right Judgment) – With the gift of right judgment, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with right judgment avoids sin and lives out the values taught by Jesus.

Reading:  All were amazed and asked one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”  (Mark 1:27)

Observation:  In order to show his authority, Jesus commands the unclean spirit to leave the person that it possesses.  The unclean spirit recognizes His power because it tries to take it from him by saying his name.  As the 8th Psalm says that was used for the Responsorial and Jesus says throughout the gospel, God did not give this power to his Son alone, rather the power rests with anyone who believes in Him and God intended for us to be creations on par with the angels, not on par with the unclean spirits, as we sometimes see ourselves.

Personification:  Faithfulness  I hope to display today the fruit of faithfulness that comes from a reliance on the fact that God created me to be something more than just a random act of goodness.  It will be my intention to act willfully in the direction of faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.  I will continue to take directions from the Word of God and every good thing that comes to me from our Holy Mother Church.

Prayer:  Lord, strengthen my faith in you so that I can call on you in times of trouble today and praise you when you complete a good work in me.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
