Gift: Fortitude (Courage) – With the gift of courage, we overcome our fear and are willing to take risk as a follower of Jesus. A person with courage is willing to stand up for what is right in the sight of God, even if it means accepting rejection, verbal abuse, or even physical harm and death.
Observation: How amazing would it be to see the unclean spirit actually recognize the power of God in the incarnation of himself in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is not to say that God’s voice would not be even more awesome to see in the Baptism of the Lord, but still the ability to see the unclean spirits recognizing that there days were numbered would be a powerful image to solidify the knowledge in our head that God is all-powerful and able to conquer all evil.
Personification: Generosity It is my hope that I can act with the fruit of generosity in my life today. It is only by the grace of God that I could have the ability to show this fruit, especially because it is in my nature to be protective of the things that I have been given. I hope that the gifts of spirit would be easier to display, since they came from God in the first place and my human nature would not take over when it comes to acting with the intention of giving freely to others of these gifts.
Prayer: Here I am Lord, I come to do your will. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit. Amen.
