Gift: Counsel (Right Judgment) – With the gift of right judgment, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with right judgment avoids sin and lives out the values taught by Jesus.

Reading:  Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; Clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own.  (Isaiah 58:7)

Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father(Matthew 5:16)

Observation:  It is perfect that the verse above from the book of Isaiah appears in the first reading for Mass today, because the Youth Ministry at our church today are doing a fundraiser to support the Catholic Community Services organization that does the work of making sure that people in need get food and clothes.  It is now, when this organization is in need that we should not turn our back on our own.  I’m so thankful that the Souper Bowl of Caring fundraiser is this weekend, so we can shine the light on this very important ministry in our community.

Personification:  Generosity  It is my calling to help the young people of our church understand the feeling of giving of themselves, so that other people will not go hungry.  It is my intention on displaying the fruit of generosity that comes from a giving of the time that I have available to this worthy cause.  Hopefully, the news will spread about the good work that the youth did this year to make this fundraiser even bigger next year.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to stay focused on your gift that you gave to us by sending your Son to die for us, so I can see whatever gift I can give in its proper perspective.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
