Gift: Knowledge – With the gift of knowledge, we understand the meaning of God’s Revelation, especially as expressed in the life and words of Jesus Christ. A person with knowledge is always learning more about the scriptures and Tradition.
Reading: In the house the disciples again questioned him about this. He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” (Mark 10:10-12)
Observation: After reading this morning, and sharing the first reading with my wife and son. I was troubled by hearing the words of Jesus toward the Pharisees about a husband and a wife, because I was considering the fact that some of the disciples had wives that they may have had to leave at home while they continue the mission of discipleship that Jesus had set them on. I didn’t consider that any of them would have wanted to divorce their wives, but I am sure they would have wanted to let them out of their obligation to the marriage after realizing what was involved in giving themselves to building the church.
Personification: Kindness I will act with the fruit of kindness in my life, because of the sacrifice that my wife makes for me to work for the church. It should be very easy for me to act with kindness, because of the immense beauty that my wife possesses, but I struggle at times with my stupidity.
Prayer: Lord, help me remember to be thankful for everything that you have given me and be mindful of the fact that it is all gift. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit. Amen.
