When is my true character showing itself?

Standard

Gift:  Piety (Reverence) – With the gift of reverence, sometimes called piety, we have a deep sense of respect for God and the Church. A person with reverence recognizes our total reliance on God and comes before God with humility, trust, and love.

Reading:  6 But she said to me, “It was given to me as a bonus over and above my wages.” Yet I would not believe her, and told her to give it back to its owners. I became very angry with her over this. So she retorted: “Where are your charitable deeds now? Where are your virtuous acts? See! Your true character is finally showing itself!”  (Tobit 2:14)

Observation:  As I read the first reading this morning, I was left with a sense of my own issues that I have with anger with my wife and children at times.  Hopefully, no one misreads this to mean that I feel like I am not extremely happy with the amazing family that the Lord has given me, because I am very happy with them.  I am just wondering if they are not sometimes left with the same feeling as Tobit’s wife in the first reading.  They could easily say to me the same words that Tobit’s wife says to him in the last verse of this chapter.

Personification:  Kindness  It is my intention today to follow the will of the Father in recognizing the times he is calling me to display the fruit of kindness to my family.  I will hopefully repent of the anger issues that I have dealt with in the past and show my family and others that I am truly content with the gift that has come to me in my amazing family.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to be able to display the fruit of kindness and love in my life.  I don’t think that you wish me to ask for my death as Tobit did, but I do wish to follow your will for me and not my will from now on.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
