Are we listening to his Word?…or just reacting to other’s fears!

Gift: Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe) – With the gift of wonder and awe (fear of the lord), we are aware of the glory and majesty of God. A person with wonder and awe knows that God is the perfection of all we desire: perfect knowledge, perfect goodness, perfect power, and perfect love.

Reading:  Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. 12 For so the Lord has commanded us, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.'”  (Acts 13:46-47)

Observation:  As I sit down to read the Word of God this morning from the readings that we get from our Holy Mother Church, I am reminded of the fact that many people are feeling anxious about this day.  They should rejoice if they really know that today is judgment day.  Most Christians and even non-Christians remember that Jesus told us that he will come like a thief in the night and we do not know the time or the hour.  Anyway, today’s message for me from the first reading is that of a reminder to look to Jerusalem for the real signs of the end times.  In the meantime, I will try and follow in the footsteps of Paul and Barnabas and the other Saints who were lights to the Gentiles.

Personification: Kindness  It is kind of tongue in cheek for me to pick the fruit of kindness to display today.  Especially, after using the words that I chose for my title today.  However, I do think it is necessary to focus on displaying the fruit of kindness to everyone; even those that try to lead people astray in their faith, because the truth is that any reminder that today could be judgement day is not only a good reminder in my book, it is a great reminder for all of us everyday.

Prayer:  Lord, I pray for all those people who are anxious today.  Please let us all rest in the peace that comes from your Word and allow us to seek out your forgiveness through repentance and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
