Gift:  Fortitude (Courage) – With the gift of courage, we overcome our fear and are willing to take risk as a follower of Jesus. A person with courage is willing to stand up for what is right in the sight of God, even if it means accepting rejection, verbal abuse, or even physical harm and death.

Reading: For the vision is a witness for the appointed time, a testimony to the end; it will not disappoint. If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late. See, the rash have no integrity; but the just one who is righteous because of faith shall live.  (Habakkuk 2:3-4)

Jesus said in reply, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Bring him here to me.” Jesus rebuked him and the demon came out of him,* and from that hour the boy was cured. (Matthew 17:17-18)

Observation:  If you read a lot of blogs about the end of time here on earth, you will likely read a note of impatience in the writing about the fact that they want Jesus to come now and not delay coming to bring judgment on this perverse world.  If we remember the words of the prophet Habakkuk and the generation that existed during the time Jesus walked the earth was called perverse as well, we could see that God is calling us to patiently wait for the Lord to bring justice.  We must be vigilant to make sure that we are not aligning ourselves with the perverse people in our generation, so the justice Jesus will bring to the world does not fall on our heads.

Personification:  Joy. It is only when I am displaying the fruit of joy in the face of all the sufferings of this world, that I am capable of communicating the grace of God to people who see me.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to display the joy that comes from following your will for my life, and help me to wait with patient expectation the coming of Jesus, which will bring judgment on this world.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit…Amen!
