God says, “A democracy will lead to destruction!”

Gift: Counsel (Right Judgment) – With the gift of right judgment, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with right judgment avoids sin and lives out the values taught by Jesus.

Reading:  “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:13-14)

Observation: I may be way off base here, but follow me for a second of my rambling and see if the conclusion I draw is one you have already contemplated. Anyway, if the road to destruction is broad, and road to life is constricted, there are more people headed to destruction than to life. Therefore, if an evil person wants to get elected in this world, he need only cater to the popular opinion. What chance does a holy and righteous person have in this system, unless he caters to the popular opinion and therefore gives up his moral backbone?

Personification: Love. It is only when I can see the good of the other person, that I feel like I should love them. However, the call to love is not conditioned on the good of the other person, it is only conditioned by the love that God has for us, which by the way, is unconditional. Therefore, I will love everyone today with the fruit of love that comes from the Holy Spirit that dwells in me.

Prayer: Lord, raise up holy men and women that have been called to serve our country as legislators and leaders in government to follow their conscience and abandon their will to get re-elected or even to go along with the popular opinion. Save us from destruction, Lord, and bring about our conversion. I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit…Amen

  1. I was reminded by our Pastor this morning that it was not always this way in this country. He was quoting Archbishop Fulton Sheen, who had the number one rated TV show in this country. I don’t know if we forgot what was important or our idea of what is good has changed that much. Reverend David Jaspers, our pastor, said that according to Archbishop Sheen, the objective of our intellect is truth, and the objective of our will is goodness. Unfortunately, it seems that “goodness” is quite subjective in our modern world, and more often than not truth is often relative.
