Has God changed his mind about me?

Reading:  So the LORD changed his mind about the punishment he had threatened to inflict on his people.  (Exodus 32:14)

&

I do not accept human praise;*”  (John 5:41)

Observation:  I have two things today to ponder from the Word of God, as I am hearing it in the daily readings for Mass.  First, I hopeful that because God changed his mind about punishing the Israelites that sinned against God by worshipping false idols, God will change his mind about me, who seem to fall into the same sinful attitude of accepting praise from others, and not looking for praise that comes from God.  Of course, that is not my only sin, but I think that I am hearing today that this sin is what leads to the others.  Pride sucks, and I want it gone from my life.

Personification:   Kindness  I am hearing my wife’s voice telling me to display this fruit of kindness today.  I don’t know why it seems that it is most often difficult to display this fruit to my wife and children.  However, I will focus on displaying this fruit today, especially because we are going to be growing our household by two people this evening.  My Sister and my Dad are coming to stay with us for a while.

Prayer:  Lord, I am hopeful that you will guide me in your ways, and show me the way to model your love and kindness to my family today and any of your children that I may come in contact with today.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.

A person with a messy desk shouldn’t do a presentation on organization, right?

Reading:  You hypocrite, 3 remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.  (Matthew 7:5)

Observation:  I didn’t include the rest of the gospel reading today in my choice of verses to reflect on because they are kind of contradicted by this one, in a sense.  Jesus is saying to not judge others at the beginning of the gospel, but he ends by saying that we can help with a splinter, once the wooden beam is removed from our eye.  To me, this is like saying what I said in the title for my journal today.  My title is a little less dramatic, and the point is that both the person with the messy desk and the person listening to the presentation are in need of help.  Even though, I may be very capable to minister to people about many subjects, I should not attempt to help anyone who struggles with the same issues that I do, unless I am just offering support as someone who suffers from the same problem that I do.

Personification:  Gentleness  It is my intention to focus on the fruit of gentleness today in my life.  I will choose to show the gentleness that comes from a sincere understanding of my weaknesses and willingness to share the struggles of others, and help when possible.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to better understand my own weaknesses, so that I can help others in ways that you are calling me to.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.

Reading:  Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.  (Matthew 5:42)

Observation:  This is just hard to hear today, because my concern is not about providing for others who will ask of me, but rather the others who might be put off because we have panhandlers coming to the church all the time because of my decision to give when asked.  This is just hard to hear because I have accepted the lie from the devil that says that he will torment me forever with bad people, if I give to someone in need.  The truth is that I must just always have a giving heart and not hold on to possessions and God will guard whatever decision I make in his name.

Personification: Faithfulness  In order to display the fruit of faithfulness today, I must be willing to just follow the directions of the holy Spirit and obey the Word of God in my life.  I must do this when I feel prompted regardless of the implications for the future, because we cannot know the future.

Prayer:  Lord, please lead me in your ways and help me to throw my old doubting ways away.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.

BJPII's Blood...

Gift: Knowledge – With the gift of knowledge, we understand the meaning of God’s Revelation, especially as expressed in the life and words of Jesus Christ. A person with knowledge is always learning more about the scriptures and Tradition.

Reading:  And so I solemnly declare to you this day that I am not responsible for the blood of any of you, for I did not shrink from proclaiming to you the entire plan of God.  (Acts 20:26-27)

Observation:  In last Thursday’s first reading, we heard in the 18th chapter of Acts that Paul would not hold himself responsible for the blood of his fellow Jews that were rejecting him.  Here, we hear Paul saying that he is not going to hold himself responsible for the blood of any disciples who accepted the Word and are persecuted for it.

Personification: Generosity  I am choosing to focus on the fruit of generosity today.  I want to be able to share the Gospel message with everyone that I meet today.  Regardless of the impact on their lives, because it is not my will that is being done but God’s will.  The Good News is that God sent his Son to redeem us from our sins, and the tough news is that it comes with a price, even for us.  I could have chosen love or faithfulness to focus on today and still wanted to deliver the same message, but I am feeling like generosity is the fruit that most explains how we should be delivering the message of the Gospel.

Prayer:  Lord, give me a generous heart to give of myself completely.  Empty me out upon the world to show how much of your love that you have filled me with.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.

Is God making a dwelling with me?

The ultimate in-dwelling...IMO!

Gift: Knowledge – With the gift of knowledge, we understand the meaning of God’s Revelation, especially as expressed in the life and words of Jesus Christ. A person with knowledge is always learning more about the scriptures and Tradition.

Reading:  Jesus answered and said to him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. ”  (John 14:23)

Observation: In reading the gospel on my own this morning, before I attended our communion service, I was moved by this verse.  It was that we heard yesterday that Jesus said he is preparing a dwelling place for those that are his disciples, but also because the idea that God would consider my opinion when making this dwelling.  I may be considering this verse incorrectly, but I also see that if we are keeping his commandments, we will be opening our hearts to receiving God into them.  Jesus is telling me that if I want God to dwell in my heart, I need only clear out the space and follow his commands.

Personification: Faithfulness  It seems simple to follow the will of God and keep his commands when I think of God making his dwelling with me, no matter the context of the phrase.  I am overjoyed with the fact that God considers me worth paying any attention to at all.  I hope I can display the fruit of faithfulness with the grace that flows freely from God and by keeping his commands by the power of that grace, not just today, but forever.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to stay focused on keeping your commands in this moment and rest in the knowledge that your plans for my future will take care of themselves.  I ask this, as always, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit.  Amen.
